D610 Specific Operational Considerations
The following operational considerations apply only to the D610.
Camera Firmware
For best results, use the latest camera body firmware and distortion control lens data. The latest firmware for the D610 is available for download at Nikon Download Center. The latest distortion control lens data for the D610 is L:2.005, available for download at Nikon Service & Support.
Flash Sync Speed - Custom Camera Setting
When using the D610 and ControlTL radios the camera's "Flash Sync Speed" setting must be set to "1/200 s (Auto FP)." This setting can be found in the "Bracketing/Flash" Custom Settings menu. This is different from other Nikon cameras, which require a Flash Sync Speed setting of 1/250 s (Auto FP).
Frame Clipping
Some clipping may occur at fast Rear Curtain Sync capable shutter speeds, for example 1/125, or at some High Speed Sync (HSS) shutter speeds if a MASTER Speedlight is in use on-camera and all 3 remote zones are engaged. This will not occur when using an AC3 ZoneController.
Clipping can also occur at faster HSS shutter speeds if you use a MASTER flash in the top shoe of your on-camera MiniTT1 or FlexTT5, and have the flash set to non-MASTER Mode. To eliminate this clipping, keep the flash in MASTER mode and deselect the zones rather than taking the flash out of MASTER mode.
Camera Battery Power
This camera will only perform as expected with the ControlTL system if the camera’s battery is 60% or greater. Always make sure the camera’s battery is fully charged before use.
For best performance with a battery grip, use the setting "Use Camera Battery First," d13 in the camera's Custom Setting Menu.
HyperSync Performance
Sorry! We don't have any HyperSync results available for this camera yet. To share your own, please contact PocketWizard tech support.
Learn how to configure your radios for best HyperSync performance on our HyperSync Setup page.
Nikon Special Notes
The following special notes apply to all Nikon cameras.
FV Lock
FV Lock is not currently supported with PocketWizard radios.
Unsupported Modes
- Mirror Up mode is not fully supported at this time – test with your specific configuration before using.
- Exposure Delay mode (set via in-camera menu) is not currently supported.
- Repeater/RPT mode is not currently supported.
In-Camera Flash Control
Using in-camera “Flash Control for Built In Flash” menu to control remote zones is not currently supported.
Rear-Curtain Sync and Bulb
Rear Curtain Sync and Bulb mode cannot be used together. For more information, visit our Rear Curtain Sync page.
Remote Infrared Control
ControlTL radios disable ALL infra-red/optical communication pulses used in Nikon’s native i-TTL system, and will not trigger remote flashes configured to receive these pulses. A PocketWizard radio is required for each remote flash you want to trigger.
